Beyma 12MC700Nd: 12" neodymium midrange with 99 dB, 700 W AES and 3.7 kg
3.7 kg for a 12" midrange rated 700 W AES: the Beyma 12MC700Nd shows what a neodymium motor does for mass. Within the MC series it is the 12" model with the strongest motor; 21.6 Tm drive a moving mass of 72 g and yield 99 dB sensitivity at 8 Ω. The working range spans 60 to 4,000 Hz.
The alignment is tight: Qts 0.24 at a resonance of 51 Hz and 58 l Vas. Such a low Qts means the motor has a firm grip on the cone, reproduces transients without ringing and tolerates small closed volumes. The 3" voice coil provides the thermal reserve for 700 W AES, Xmax is 7 mm and the displacement 375 cm³. Mounting depth is 145 mm.
Use and enclosure
The 12MC700Nd is the midrange for line arrays and lightweight 3-way tops where high output and low weight have to coexist. The guideline for a closed midrange compartment is 7.6 l with an in-box resonance of 150 Hz. The lower crossover sits well above the 60 Hz limit, in practice above the box resonance; the upper crossover to the horn goes below 4,000 Hz, and with a 12" cone preferably well below, to keep beaming under control.
An EBP of 196 assigns it to vented and horn concepts, not to low bass in closed boxes. The vented guideline is 14 l tuned to 77 Hz with an f3 of 98 Hz, enough for a compact kick module. Fine tuning is done with the 42.audio enclosure calculator.

Frequently asked questions
12MC700Nd or 12MCB700?
Both offer 700 W AES, a 3" voice coil and 51 Hz resonance. The 12MC700Nd weighs only 3.7 kg with neodymium, the ferrite 12MCB700 roughly twice that; in return the MCB is cheaper. Electrically they sit close together at Qts 0.24 versus 0.27.
Which amplifier makes sense?
With 99 dB sensitivity the driver reaches high levels with little power; an amplifier in the region of the 700 W AES rating into 8 Ω is headroom rather than necessity. A high-pass below the crossover protects against low-frequency excursion.
How does it differ from the 12MI100?
The 12MI100 with Qts 0.22, 58 Hz resonance and 64 l Vas is a pure midrange with very short excursion. The 12MC700Nd offers far more headroom for the lower midrange and kick content with 7 mm Xmax and 700 W AES.
