Beyma 12MCB700: 12" midrange with 700 W AES, 98 dB and BL 21 Tm
The Beyma 12MCB700 is the ferrite version among Beyma's 700 W midranges in the 12" class. It combines a 3" voice coil with a motor of 21 Tm, delivers 98 dB sensitivity and works from 55 to 4,000 Hz. The ferrite magnet system is heavy at 7.8 kg, yet not excessively deep at 139 mm mounting depth.
With Qts 0.27 at 51 Hz resonance and 59.5 l Vas the alignment is tight, though not quite as extreme as its neodymium sibling. Qms 4.2 shows that part of the damping comes mechanically from the suspension. The moving mass of 55 g is low for a 12" driver with 6 mm Xmax and explains the high sensitivity; the displacement of 330 cm³ covers the lower midrange with headroom.
Use and enclosure
Its typical job is the midrange in fixed-installation 3-way systems and tops where weight does not matter. A closed midrange compartment of 10 l as a guideline gives an in-box resonance of 134 Hz; place the lower crossover well above the 55 Hz limit, sensibly above the box resonance. Towards the top the range is usable to 4,000 Hz, although with a 12" cone the transition to the compression driver is better placed in the lower part of that range.
With an EBP of 204 the driver is clearly designed for vented or horn loading, not for low bass in a closed box. The vented guideline is 21 l tuned to 70 Hz with an f3 of 83 Hz, enough for a kick module above a subwoofer. For deep bass the 6 mm Xmax lacks the excursion. Is the 12MC700Nd worth the extra cost?
If weight matters, yes: the neodymium 12MC700Nd weighs less than half of the 7.8 kg with otherwise very similar data, the same 51 Hz resonance and 700 W AES. For fixed installations the 12MCB700 is the more economical choice.
Which enclosure for midrange duty?
A closed, well damped compartment of 10 l as a guideline with 134 Hz in-box resonance. Smaller works too, but the resonance rises and the crossover moves up with it.
How does it compare with the 12MI100?
The 12MI100 with Qts 0.22 and 64 l Vas is a pure midrange with very short excursion. The 12MCB700 offers 6 mm Xmax and 700 W AES and reaches lower with its 55 Hz limit, which makes it more versatile.
