Beyma 15CXA400Fe: 15" coaxial driver with ferrite motor, 400 W AES and 98 dB
The Beyma 15CXA400Fe is a 15" coaxial loudspeaker from the CXA series: a low-frequency cone with a ferrite magnet and a high-frequency unit mounted at its centre that covers the range up to 20,000 Hz. Both sections radiate from the same axis. That is the whole point of a coaxial: no interference between two spatially separated sources around the crossover, consistent directivity across the listening window, and a cabinet that needs just one cutout.
Among 15" coaxials, the 15CXA400Fe is the bass-oriented option. A resonance frequency of 40 Hz, Qts of 0.42 and Vas of 191 l are parameters for a genuine two-way full-range design with extension down to 35 Hz. 400 W AES power handling and 98 dB sensitivity at 8 Ω are in line with a ferrite system of this size; the 11.9 kg weight is the downside of the ferrite magnet, while the motor in return is thermally sluggish and robust.
Use and enclosure
With an EBP of 93 you can go either sealed or vented. As a guideline for bass reflex, the parameters point to roughly 238 l tuned to 37 Hz, giving a lower cutoff around 35 Hz: a large cabinet, but exactly what a 15" coaxial needs as a full-range system. Sealed, about 104 l is enough, with a corner frequency of 67 Hz; that is the choice for monitors that will be supported by a subwoofer anyway. Port dimensions and fine tuning are best done with the enclosure calculator on 42.audio.
Typical applications are stage monitors, main studio monitors with high dynamic headroom, compact PA tops for speech and music, and home cinema fronts with cinema-level output. The crossover between cone and HF unit is yours to define with a dedicated network; all Thiele-Small parameters are listed in the 42.audio driver database.
What to look out for
- 8 Ω nominal impedance, Re 6.3 Ω: easy on any amplifier, plan for 400 W AES power handling.
- 11.9 kg weight: size the baffle and the mounting hardware accordingly.
- Xmax 6 mm with Sd 880 cm²: decent excursion for a coaxial, but no substitute for a subwoofer.
- Le 0.95 mH: take the voice coil inductance into account when designing the crossover.
- BL 18.2 Tm with Mms 90 g: a strong motor driving a light cone.
Frequently asked questions
How does the 15CXA400Fe differ from the 15CXA400Nd?
The 15CXA400Nd uses a neodymium magnet and is considerably lighter. With Qts 0.36 and Vas 196 l it is more tightly damped and works in a smaller vented box; the Fe reaches slightly deeper with its 35 Hz lower limit and is the obvious choice for installed cabinets where weight does not matter.
Which enclosure makes sense?
A vented box of about 238 l tuned to 37 Hz extracts the full low-end extension. If you add a subwoofer system below it, a sealed box of around 104 l is the more compact and transient-accurate solution. Both are guidelines derived from the Thiele-Small parameters; the enclosure calculator settles the details.
Which amplifier fits?
An amplifier delivering in the region of the 400 W AES rating into 8 Ω makes full use of the driver. Thanks to 98 dB sensitivity you reach high levels with far less power, so clean clipping behaviour matters more than raw wattage.
At 42.audio you get the BEYMA 15CXA400Fe with all key data in the driver database and the enclosure calculator. More drivers from this manufacturer: Atlas Beyma.

Enclosure suggestion
The EBP of 93 is in the intermediate range — either works; sealed plays tighter, bass reflex deeper and louder. EBP = fs / Qes = 40 / 0.43
Sealed (Qtc 0.707)
- Enclosure volume Vb
- 104.2 l
- System resonance Fc
- 67 Hz
- Cut-off frequency F3
- 67 Hz
Bass reflex (QB3 after Small)
- Enclosure volume Vb
- 218.2 l
- Tuning frequency Fb
- 38 Hz
- Cut-off frequency F3
- 38 Hz
Vb is the required net internal volume, Fb the tuning frequency of the reflex port and F3 the frequency at which the level has dropped by 3 dB. Calculated approximation after Small. A starting point for simulation, not a finished build plan.
