Beyma 5CX200Nd/N: 5" neodymium coaxial with 1.75" voice coil, 150 W AES and 92.5 dB

The Beyma 5CX200Nd/N packs a low-frequency cone with a 1.75" voice coil and a central HF unit into a 5" driver weighing just 1.6 kg. The neodymium motor delivers BL 7.32 Tm against a very low moving mass of 6 g, resulting in a Qts of 0.28: a tightly controlled cone designed for transient accuracy and midrange resolution. The response spans 75 to 20,000 Hz and power handling is 150 W AES at 8 Ω.

With 92.5 dB sensitivity the driver is among the more efficient 5" coaxials. The large voice coil is unusual at this size; it brings thermal reserve and a more even force distribution in the gap, which lowers distortion at higher levels. Xmax 5.7 mm and Vas 9.1 l complete a picture that looks more like a small professional midrange with an HF section than a full-range compromise.

Use and enclosure

An EBP of 268 speaks plainly: this coaxial is not a bass specialist but a mid-high driver. The most sensible application is a sealed midrange chamber of around 1.7 l, giving a corner frequency of 189 Hz, with a woofer taking over below. Bass reflex is possible, as a guideline about 3.5 l tuned to 99 Hz with a lower limit around 116 Hz, but only makes sense in very compact satellites with a subwoofer. The enclosure calculator on 42.audio works out both variants for you.

Suitable projects are three-way systems where the 5CX200Nd/N acts as the coaxial mid-high unit above a large woofer, compact line array elements, nearfield monitors with subwoofer, and lightweight installation boxes. The crossover between cone and HF unit is defined by your network; the parameters are in the driver database.

What to look out for

  • 1.6 kg: neodymium keeps the weight down, good for arrays and ceiling mounting.
  • 1.75" voice coil at 150 W AES: thermal reserve for continuous operation.
  • Qts 0.28 and EBP 268: favour a sealed midrange chamber, leave the bass to the woofer.
  • 8 Ω, Re 5.2 Ω, Le 0.2 mH: very low inductance, convenient for the crossover.
  • Xmax 5.7 mm: excursion headroom that midrange duty barely touches.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference from the B&C 5FCX44?

The 5FCX44 has a lower resonance at Fs 61 Hz with a similarly tight Qts of 0.25 and Vas 7 l. The 5CX200Nd/N, with Fs 75 Hz and its 1.75" voice coil, leans more towards power handling and midrange; for the bass region both need a woofer.

Can I run it as a full-range satellite?

In a vented box of about 3.5 l you reach a cutoff around 116 Hz. That is fine for speech and, with a subwoofer, for music too; without a sub there is simply no output below, because a driver with Qts 0.28 is not built for that.

Which amplifier fits?

With 92.5 dB at 8 Ω even small power amps give usable levels. Up to 150 W AES there is reserve; a high-pass below the operating range protects the HF unit and keeps the cone from unnecessary excursion.
