Beyma 5P200Fe: 5" mid-woofer with 92 dB, 150 W AES and a 1.5" voice coil

92 dB sensitivity from a 5" driver is a statement, and that is exactly what the Beyma 5P200Fe is built for. The ferrite P series relies on a 1.5" voice coil rated at 150 W AES, a light 10 g cone and a motor with BL 8.5 Tm. The result is a mid-woofer for applications where output per watt matters more than extension: compact PA tops, line-array elements, columns and midrange sections in 3-way systems.

The transmission range of 70 Hz to 10,000 Hz is wide, but the parameters show clearly where the driver lives: Fs 72 Hz, Qts 0.33, Vas 5.7 l and an EBP of 206. That is a midrange profile with enough excursion for the lower midband, since Xmax 5.7 mm yields 49 cm³ of displacement. With 79 mm mounting depth and 2.2 kg it also fits shallow cabinets and tight arrays.

Use and enclosure

For a vented box the guideline is a very compact 3.5 l with fb 82 Hz and f3 around 88 Hz. Deep bass is not the point here; clean lower midrange from a minimal volume is. As a midrange in a 3-way system the driver belongs in a sealed midrange chamber; the guideline for that is 1.6 l with fc around 154 Hz. Set the low crossover well above 70 Hz so excursion and distortion stay in check. Verify both options beforehand with the enclosure calculator at 42.audio.

At the top the range extends to 10,000 Hz, and the low inductance of 0.6 mH means the 5P200Fe can be tied passively to a tweeter or a small horn without trouble. At 8 Ω and 150 W AES a small to mid-sized amplifier is enough; in arrays with several drivers in parallel keep an eye on the total impedance, since Re is 5.2 Ω.

What to look out for

  • 92 dB sensitivity: level-matches compression drivers without heavy attenuation.
  • Mounting depth 79 mm and 2.2 kg: shallow enough for line-array modules and thin cabinets.
  • Xmax 5.7 mm: set the high-pass well above 70 Hz when used as a midrange.
  • Le 0.6 mH: flat impedance curve for passive crossovers.
  • Ferrite magnet: less sensitive to heat than the neodymium sibling 5P200Nd.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the 5P200Fe and the 5P200Nd?

The 5P200Nd is the neodymium variant with Fs 78 Hz, Qts 0.3 and Vas 4.5 l, so slightly tighter and lighter. The 5P200Fe sits marginally lower with Fs 72 Hz, Qts 0.33 and Vas 5.7 l and uses the more robust ferrite magnet.

Is the 5P200Fe suitable as a midrange in a 3-way cabinet?

Yes, that is one of its core uses. A sealed midrange chamber around 1.6 l as a guideline, a low crossover well above 70 Hz and a high crossover below 10,000 Hz, and the 1.5" voice coil with 150 W AES works comfortably.

How does it compare with the 18 Sound 5W430?

The 5W430 has considerably more extension with Fs 52 Hz, Qts 0.32 and Vas 15 l and needs a larger box. The 5P200Fe with Fs 72 Hz and Vas 5.7 l is the more compact driver, aimed at midrange and output.

Beyma 5P200Fe: manufacturer, spellings and classification

Beyma and Acustica Beyma refer to the same manufacturer: Acústica Beyma S.L. of Moncada near Valencia, Spain. The 5P200Fe is a 5-inch woofer with ferrite magnet from the P series, available from 42.audio, Beyma dealer in Germany, with datasheet and full specifications in the driver database.

At 42.audio you get the BEYMA 5P200Fe with all key data in the driver database and the enclosure calculator. More drivers from this manufacturer: Atlas Beyma.
