Beyma 6CX200Nd/N: 6" coaxial with neodymium, 1.75" voice coil and 200 W AES for mid-high duty
Just 2 kg, a 1.75" voice coil, Qts 0.27: the Beyma 6CX200Nd/N is a 6" coaxial driver conceived as a mid-high building block rather than a small full-range speaker. The neodymium motor delivers BL 10.52 Tm against 16 g of moving mass and damps the cone electrically so strongly that it works very cleanly in the midrange. The HF unit sits at the centre and covers the range up to 20,000 Hz, while the cone starts at 65 Hz.
Compared with its ferrite sibling, the 6CX200Fe, the Nd/N buys you weight savings and power handling per volume: 200 W AES at 8 Ω with a large voice coil means thermal reserve for continuous operation, while 92 dB sensitivity reflects the smaller displaced air volume and the tight motor. Xmax 5.5 mm and a displacement volume of 69 cm³ are plenty for midrange and adequate for satellite use with a subwoofer.
Use and enclosure
The EBP of 224 makes the direction clear: this driver does not want to be a bass unit. The right environment is a sealed midrange chamber of around 1.6 l, giving a corner frequency of 170 Hz; a woofer takes over below. As a vented satellite the 6CX200Nd/N works with about 3.3 l tuned to 89 Hz, with a lower cutoff around 106 Hz, which only becomes a complete system with a subwoofer. Both are guidelines from the Thiele-Small parameters; fine tuning is done in the enclosure calculator on 42.audio.
Typical projects: coaxial mid-high units in three-way monitors, lightweight line array modules, ceiling speakers with subwoofer support, and compact active systems where low weight and point-source radiation count. The crossover between cone and HF unit is determined by your network; the parameters are in the driver database.
What to look out for
- 2 kg weight: neodymium makes the driver light for arrays and ceiling mounting.
- 1.75" voice coil, 200 W AES: high thermal power handling for a 6" driver.
- Qts 0.27, EBP 224: sealed midrange chamber or small vented satellite with subwoofer.
- 8 Ω, Re 5 Ω, Le 0.24 mH: low inductance, simple crossover design.
- 92 dB: slightly less efficiency than the ferrite version, more control in return.
Frequently asked questions
When is the 6CX200Nd/N the better choice over the 6CX200Fe?
When weight and thermal reserve matter more than the last bit of extension and efficiency. The Nd/N weighs 2 kg and handles 200 W AES comfortably with its 1.75" voice coil; the Fe is the choice for stationary boxes where the higher sensitivity counts.
Which enclosure do I need as a midrange?
A sealed chamber of around 1.6 l is enough; the corner frequency is 170 Hz. Cross over to the woofer well above the 65 Hz resonance and damp the chamber thoroughly, and the midrange stays free of enclosure resonances.
How much amplifier power makes sense?
With 92 dB at 8 Ω even small power amps give usable levels; the 200 W AES rating is the thermal limit. A high-pass below the operating range is mandatory so the cone, with 5.5 mm Xmax, is not driven out of its working range by bass content.
Beyma 6CX200Nd/N: manufacturer, spellings and classification
Beyma and Acustica Beyma refer to the same manufacturer: Acústica Beyma S.L. of Moncada near Valencia, Spain. The 6CX200Nd/N is a 6-inch coaxial driver with neodymium magnet from the CX series, available from 42.audio, Beyma dealer in Germany, with datasheet and full specifications in the driver database.
At 42.audio you get the BEYMA 6CX200Nd/N with all key data in the driver database and the enclosure calculator. More drivers from this manufacturer: Atlas Beyma.
