Beyma 6MCF200Nd: 6" neodymium midrange with 97 dB for 400 to 12,000 Hz
The Beyma 6MCF200Nd is not a mid-woofer but a pure midrange driver: the working range only starts at 400 Hz and extends to 12,000 Hz. The MCF series relies on a neodymium motor with a 2" voice coil, 200 W AES and 97 dB sensitivity; the weight is 2.3 kg and the mounting depth just 75 mm.
The parameters are unusual and explain the concept: Fs 406 Hz, Vas 0.27 l and a Qts of 0.72 with an extremely high Qms of 10.3. This is a stiffly suspended driver with very low compliance that does not even attempt to deliver lower mids. The motor with a BL of 18.1 Tm on only 15 g Mms is very strong for a 6" driver, and the inductance of 0.1 mH is low; together they give precision and bandwidth well beyond the range of usual cone midranges.
Use and enclosure
With Xmax 2.5 mm and Vd 35 cm³ the 6MCF200Nd is intended exclusively for operation above its resonance. Set the crossover to the bass well above 400 Hz, clearly above the Fs of 406 Hz; below that a 12" or 15" mid-woofer takes over. A small sealed midrange chamber of its own is sufficient, since the Vas of 0.27 l is tiny and the driver only needs shielding from the pressure of the bass compartment. The 6MCF200Nd is also interesting as a driver for midrange horns, thanks to 97 dB and the strong motor.
Towards the top it plays up to 12,000 Hz, so the hand-over to a tweeter can sit high. Compared with the Beyma 6MI100 (Fs 128 Hz, Qts 0.51, Vas 3.1 l) the 6MCF200Nd is the more specialised driver: less extension, but more efficiency, more bandwidth and the lighter neodymium motor.
What to look out for
- 8 Ω, Re 6.2 Ω, Le 0.1 mH: an almost purely resistive load up to 12,000 Hz.
- Fs 406 Hz: a high-pass is mandatory, no use below 400 Hz.
- Xmax 2.5 mm: sufficient for midrange, not designed for lower mids.
- Mounting depth 75 mm, neodymium magnet, 2.3 kg.
- 97 dB sensitivity: matches 15" woofers and horn tweeters in level.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the 6MCF200Nd have such a high resonance frequency?
The Fs of 406 Hz and the Vas of 0.27 l indicate a very stiff suspension, typical of midrange drivers with high power handling and small excursion. The advantage: no effort on rear volume and hardly any influence from the enclosure; the disadvantage: no extension at all.
Can I use the 6MCF200Nd in a midrange horn?
Yes, the combination of 97 dB, BL 18.1 Tm and only 15 g Mms suits horn loading well. Make sure the horn's lower cut-off and the driver's 400 Hz lower limit match.
How does the 6MCF200Nd differ from the 6MI100?
With Fs 128 Hz and Qts 0.51 the 6MI100 has a more classic midrange character and can be crossed lower. The 6MCF200Nd starts at 400 Hz, offers 97 dB and reaches 12,000 Hz.
