Beyma 6P200Fe: 6" mid-woofer with 93 dB, 2" voice coil and Qts 0.26
A 2" voice coil in a 6" driver is a clear hint at the target audience: the Beyma 6P200Fe from the P series is built for sound reinforcement, not for hi-fi shelves. With 200 W AES, 93 dB sensitivity at 8 Ω and a ferrite magnet it brings the combination of output and power handling needed in compact PA tops, monitors and midrange sections. The transmission range runs from 60 Hz to 9000 Hz.
The parameters are tight: Fs 58 Hz, Qts 0.26, Qes 0.27 and Vas 11.1 l with a moving mass of 17 g and BL 10.5 Tm. The EBP of 215 places the driver firmly in vented and midrange territory. Xmax 5 mm gives 68 cm³ of displacement, sufficient for the lower midband above a subwoofer crossover. Mounting depth of 87.5 mm and 3.1 kg are normal for a ferrite 6" with a 2" coil.
Use and enclosure
The vented guideline is 3.5 l with fb 82 Hz and f3 around 99 Hz. That makes the 6P200Fe a satellite or the mid-woofer in a top cabinet run with a subwoofer. As a midrange in a 3-way box it goes into a sealed midrange chamber, guideline 1.7 l with fc around 158 Hz. The lower crossover then sits well above 60 Hz and the upper one below 9000 Hz, in practice where the 6" cone starts to beam and a compression driver on a horn takes over. Suitable Beyma horns and waveguides are listed in the corresponding category at 42.audio.
At 8 Ω nominal impedance and Re 4.9 Ω the 6P200Fe handles 200 W AES; a mid-power amplifier is sufficient. The low inductance of 0.3 mH keeps the impedance curve flat, which simplifies both passive and active crossovers. A high-pass to protect the 5 mm Xmax belongs in every application without a subwoofer crossover.
What to look out for
- 2" voice coil with 200 W AES: more thermal reserve than typical 6" drivers with smaller coils.
- Qts 0.26 and EBP 215: vented box or midrange chamber, not a sealed bass alignment.
- Xmax 5 mm: high-pass well above 60 Hz when no subwoofer covers the low end.
- Le 0.3 mH: flat impedance curve, friendly to passive crossovers.
- Mounting depth 87.5 mm, 3.1 kg: compact cabinets are no problem.
Frequently asked questions
6P200Fe or 6P200Nd, what is the difference?
The 6P200Nd is the neodymium variant with Fs 56 Hz, Qts 0.29 and Vas 11.9 l, so marginally softer in alignment. The 6P200Fe has the tighter parameter set with Qts 0.26 and Vas 11.1 l, plus 93 dB sensitivity and the robust ferrite magnet.
Which enclosure for a small PA top used with a subwoofer?
Vented around 3.5 l with fb 82 Hz as a guideline. The f3 then lands around 99 Hz, which fits well with a subwoofer crossover in that region. Work out the exact tuning with the enclosure calculator at 42.audio.
Can I couple the 6P200Fe passively to a compression driver?
Yes, the 0.3 mH inductance and 93 dB sensitivity make that comparatively easy. The compression driver is usually padded down a little, and the crossover sits below 9000 Hz at the point where horn and 6" cone radiate similarly.
