Beyma CD-101Nd/PK: 1" neodymium compression driver at 0.3 kg and 44 mm depth
Light, shallow, 1" throat: the Beyma CD-101Nd/PK is the neodymium version of the small CD-101 driver and weighs just 0.3 kg. Its mounting depth of 44 mm makes it attractive for slim tops, ceiling speakers and columns where there is hardly any room behind the horn. Nominal impedance 8 Ω, power handling 40 W AES, frequency range 2,000 to 20,000 Hz.
The voice coil measures 1.1" and resonance sits at 2,000 Hz. Both facts place the driver firmly in the pure-tweeter class: it is not built for low crossover points but for clean highs above an 8" or 10" mid-woofer in a two-way design. The force factor of 3 Tm is appropriate for such a small motor; the neodymium magnet delivers it at far lower mass than a comparable ferrite ring, which is why the ferrite version CD-101Fe/PK is noticeably heavier. The /PK code identifies the diaphragm variant; the sister version CD-101Nd/PT is electrically identical.
Use and enclosure
Wherever weight counts, the CD-101Nd/PK earns its place: portable small PA, installations on light trusses or ceilings, active monitors with limited internal space. The 1" throat fits Beyma horns from the Horns & Waveguides category as well as documented 1" horns such as the 18Sound XT1086 Alu, XG10 Alu or Celestion H1SC-9040. A waveguide with wide coverage is often a better choice here than a long horn, because the driver is crossed high anyway and does not need deep horn loading.
The crossover frequency belongs clearly above the 2,000 Hz resonance, with a steep high-pass. The 40 W AES rating is a thermal continuous figure for filtered operation; the small 1.1" coil will not tolerate low-frequency misuse. In a passive design you attenuate the driver with an L-pad to match the woofer and add a series capacitor; with DSP a properly set high-pass plus limiter is sufficient.

- Neodymium magnet, only 0.3 kg: ideal when every gram on the truss or ceiling matters.
- Mounting depth 44 mm: fits slim cabinets where a ferrite driver no longer goes.
- 1.1" voice coil: pure tweeter, cross over clearly above 2,000 Hz.
- 8 Ω and 40 W AES: any small PA or hi-fi amplifier is sufficient, the crossover protects.

Frequently asked questions
Is the CD-101Nd/PK enough for a small 2-way PA box?
For speech, conference and small stages yes, provided the crossover sits well above 2,000 Hz and the high-pass is steep. For loud music with a lower crossover you are better off with a driver with a larger coil such as the CD-10Nd/N.
What does neodymium gain over the ferrite version?
The magnet is much lighter and more compact for the same field strength, which is why the driver weighs only 0.3 kg and is just 44 mm deep. The electrical data, 8 Ω, 40 W AES and 2,000 to 20,000 Hz, are comparable with the ferrite version CD-101Fe/PK; you are mainly paying for the weight saving.
Which horn fits the CD-101Nd/PK?
