Beyma CD-11Fe: 1" compression driver with ferrite, 1.75" coil and 6.6 Tm
A 1" HF driver for two-way PA that does without neodymium: the Beyma CD-11Fe relies on a ferrite magnet with a 6.6 Tm force factor, a 1.75" voice coil and 70 W AES power handling. The frequency range runs from 700 to 19,000 Hz and nominal impedance is 8 Ω. The ferrite system weighs 1.8 kg and is 59 mm deep.
The 1.75" coil is the reason this driver can work lower and absorb more power than the small 1.1" models of the series. More winding wire in the gap means more thermal capacity, and a larger diaphragm area means more volume displacement for the same excursion. Compared with the electrically identical CD-10Fe/N, the CD-11Fe is heavier, which points to a larger magnet ring; power handling, force factor and frequency range are the same. Beyma offers the CD-11Nd as the neodymium version and the CD-1114Fe with a 1.4" throat.
Use and enclosure
The CD-11Fe is meant to be combined with a 12" woofer in a two-way cabinet, or alternatively as the HF unit above a midrange horn. It fits Beyma 1" horns from the Horns & Waveguides category as well as documented 1" models such as the 18Sound XT1086 Alu, XR1064 Alu, XT120 or Celestion H1SC-9040. A large horn makes better use of the lower limit; a compact waveguide is the right choice when the crossover sits higher anyway.
The crossover frequency belongs at least an octave above the 700 Hz resonance, filtered at 12 dB/octave or steeper. The 70 W AES rating refers to band-limited noise in filtered operation. In a passive crossover you match the level to the woofer with an L-pad and place a capacitor in series as protection; in an active setup the DSP handles high-pass, level, delay and limiter. At 1.8 kg the Nd version is worth a look for portable tops, while in fixed installations the weight is no argument.
