Beyma CD-171Fe/PK: 1" compression driver with a 1.75" voice coil and 80 W AES
There is no shortage of 1"-exit compression drivers; the Beyma CD-171Fe/PK belongs to the group that puts a 1.75" voice coil behind that exit. That is considerably more coil area than the smallest 1" drivers offer, and it is why Beyma rates the unit at 80 W AES and lets its working range start as low as 800 Hz. The motor is ferrite, and the 2.3 kg of mass leave no doubt: this is a classic iron motor, not a lightweight build.
The /PK suffix identifies the diaphragm variant. The same motor is also available as the CD-171Fe/PT, which carries identical electrical and mechanical figures: 8 Ω, 59 mm mounting depth, BL 5.4 Tm, the same frequency range. Use and enclosure
The natural home for this driver is a two-way PA cabinet or active monitor in which a 12" mid-woofer covers everything up to the lower midrange and the CD-171Fe/PK takes over on a horn above it. For the 1" throat, Beyma's own 1" horns and waveguides are the obvious match; across brands, the 18SOUND XT120, XT1086 Alu or Celestion H1-9040P are candidates. The 800 Hz lower limit describes where the driver operates at all, not where you should cross it over. For continuous duty at the full 80 W AES, cross at least an octave higher and with a steep slope: 12 dB/oct lets too much low-frequency energy through to a 1" driver, while 24 dB/oct from a DSP or a fourth-order passive network is the safe choice. The larger the horn, the lower you can push the crossover.
