Beyma CD-320Nd/Ti: 2" neodymium driver with 3" voice coil, 90 W AES and 2 kg

When a 2" driver is going into a touring top, weight is the first question, and the Beyma CD-320Nd/Ti answers it with 2 kg. A neodymium motor with a BL of 10 Tm makes that possible, driving a 3" voice coil beneath a titanium diaphragm. The 2" exit opens up a working range from 500 Hz to 18,000 Hz, power handling is 90 W AES at 8 Ω, mounting depth is 78 mm.

That makes it the lightweight counterpart to the CD-320Fe/Ti, which weighs several times as much with its ferrite motor and is considerably deeper, with otherwise identical figures. The CD series family offers the smaller siblings in the 1.4" models CD-314 and CD-2514; the CD-320Nd/Ti is the driver for anyone who wants to combine the lowest operating point in the range with the lowest weight. 42.audio carries the complete series and compares the data in the driver database.

Use and enclosure

The CD-320Nd/Ti suits high-output two-way tops with 12" or larger woofers that need a low crossover, and mobile systems where the ferrite model would be too heavy. The horn needs a 2" throat; Beyma offers matching horns and waveguides in its own category, and from 18SOUND the XR2064C fits. A horn with a low loading frequency is what makes the 500 Hz lower limit usable in the first place; the crossover itself sits well above it.

Above 18,000 Hz it stops, which is no restriction in PA use; in a three-way system a small tweeter can take over. The neodymium magnet needs consideration under sustained heat, so a limiter in the DSP is mandatory rather than optional. The 78 mm mounting depth is moderate for a 2" driver and leaves room in the cabinet behind the horn.

What to look out for

  • 2 kg: the neodymium motor makes the 2" driver tour-ready, a fraction of the ferrite model.
  • BL 10 Tm on a 3" voice coil: the strongest motor of the CD series in this selection.
  • Mounting depth 78 mm: more compact than the ferrite model.
  • Working range 500 – 18,000 Hz: low crossover possible, 90 W AES with a steep high-pass.
  • 2" horn interface and 8 Ω: choose a horn with a 2" throat, amplifier uncritical.

Frequently asked questions

Is the CD-320Nd/Ti suitable for a mobile two-way top?

Yes, at 2 kg and 78 mm mounting depth it is the 2" driver in the series that lends itself to cabinets on the move. It works on a 2" horn with a crossover well above 500 Hz. With DSP, a steep high-pass and a limiter it is well protected on tour.

What separates the CD-320Nd/Ti from the CD-320Fe/Ti?

Weight, mounting depth and motor: 2 kg and 78 mm with BL 10 Tm for the Nd; the Fe is several times heavier, deeper and has a somewhat weaker motor. Power handling, impedance, voice coil, diaphragm and frequency range are the same. If you do not carry the box, take the ferrite; if you do, take the neodymium.

Which horn fits the CD-320Nd/Ti?

A horn with a 2" interface, preferably with a low loading frequency. Beyma offers matching horns and waveguides, and from the 18SOUND range the XR2064C is a 2" candidate. Check the flange bolt pattern before buying.
