Beyma CP-12/N: compact compression tweeter with 40 W AES from 3,000 Hz
Compact PA boxes and monitors often do not need a large compression driver with horn, but a tweeter that reliably delivers level above 3,000 Hz. That is exactly where the Beyma CP-12/N comes in: a compression tweeter from the CP series with 1" voice coil, integrated horn, 40 W AES and 8 Ω.
At 0.75 kg and 72 mm mounting depth the CP-12/N is small and fits shallow cabinets too. The frequency range extends to 20,000 Hz. The force factor of 4 Tm is sufficient for high efficiency given the low moving mass of a compression tweeter, which together with the 40 W AES is enough for the HF branch of a two-way box.
Use and enclosure
Crossover: not below 3,000 Hz, preferably with some margin above it if the crossover is passive at 12 dB/oct. The high starting point makes the CP-12/N a partner for smaller mid-woofers that themselves play cleanly up to this region. With 24 dB/oct. via DSP you can exploit the lower limit better.
Because the horn is integrated, you need no further connection or adapter. Typical use: compact two-way boxes, monitor wedges with little depth, replacement for failed tweeters in existing systems, HF extension for full-range drivers. If you want an interchangeable horn and variable coverage, the right combination is found among Beyma's compression drivers and the Horns & Waveguides category.
What to look out for
- 8 Ω, 40 W AES: level matching via series resistor or L-pad in passive crossovers.
- Mounting depth 72 mm: suitable for shallow monitors.
- 0.75 kg: hardly affects cabinet weight.
- Lower limit 3,000 Hz: steep filter, crossover above it.
- No horn, no adapter: straight into the baffle.
Frequently asked questions
Which box size suits the CP-12/N?
Compact two-way boxes where the mid-woofer plays up beyond 3,000 Hz. Larger cones already beam strongly there; then a tweeter with a lower operating limit makes more sense.
How do I protect the tweeter?
Cross over clearly above 3,000 Hz, filter at least 12 dB/oct., and do not push the 40 W AES as continuous power with a low crossover. A series capacitor ahead of the high-pass catches DC.
Can I run the CP-12/N actively?
Yes, with a small amplifier into 8 Ω and a DSP high-pass at 24 dB/oct. That way you make better use of the 3,000 Hz limit and can adjust the level without a resistor network.
