Beyma CP-16: shallow compression tweeter with 65 mm mounting depth and 40 W AES
65 mm mounting depth: the Beyma CP-16 is the compression tweeter for cabinets where hardly any room remains behind the baffle. The 1" voice coil, 40 W AES and a frequency range of 3,000 to 20,000 Hz are what you expect from the CP series; the horn is part of the unit.
At 0.75 kg and 8 Ω the CP-16 integrates into any passive two-way crossover, provided the level matching is right. The force factor of 4 Tm on a light diaphragm explains why compression tweeters of this type reach high efficiency without a large magnet. Beyma thus delivers a tweeter for small PA tops, column speakers and monitors.
Use and enclosure
The lower operating limit of 3,000 Hz is binding. For passive crossovers at 12 dB/oct. you place the crossover well above it; actively at 24 dB/oct. you can get closer. The mid-woofer therefore has to work cleanly up beyond 3,000 Hz, which favours smaller cones.
Installation is limited to a baffle cutout and the screws. Since there is no horn throat, horn selection does not apply; if you want to decide coverage and horn size yourself, Beyma's compression drivers and the Horns & Waveguides category are the place to look. With 65 mm depth the CP-16 also suits retrofits in boxes where a tweeter would otherwise collide with the woofer magnet.
What to look out for
- Mounting depth 65 mm: fits even behind a narrow baffle.
- 8 Ω, 40 W AES: match the level with an L-pad or series resistor.
- 0.75 kg: light enough for columns and portable boxes.
- From 3,000 Hz: the mid-woofer has to reach that far.
Frequently asked questions
When should I choose the CP-16?
When mounting depth decides: 65 mm is enough for shallow cabinets or boxes where the woofer magnet sits close to the baffle. Electrically it behaves like a typical compression tweeter with 40 W AES into 8 Ω.
Which crossover for the CP-16?
High-pass clearly above 3,000 Hz, 12 dB/oct. at least, preferably steeper. Plus a voltage divider to match the efficiency to the mid-woofer. Active via DSP the divider is unnecessary, the high-pass remains mandatory.
Can I use the CP-16 with a different horn?
No, the horn is permanently integrated. For interchangeable horns you need a compression driver with screw or bolt-on throat and a matching horn from the Beyma range.
Beyma CP-16: manufacturer, spellings and classification
Beyma and Acustica Beyma refer to the same manufacturer: Acústica Beyma S.L. of Moncada near Valencia, Spain. The CP-16 is a compression tweeter from the CP series, available from 42.audio, Beyma dealer in Germany, with datasheet and full specifications in the driver database.
