Beyma TPL-150/H: horn-loaded AMT with 102 dB, usable from 700 Hz
An AMT that works from 700 Hz and reaches 102 dB sensitivity is no longer a tweeter but a mid-high driver. That is exactly what the Beyma TPL-150/H is: the TPL-150 fitted with a horn in front. The horn raises the radiation resistance in front of the pleated diaphragm, lifts efficiency and pushes the lower cut-off downwards. Add 80 W AES power handling and a working range up to 23,000 Hz.
The foil itself follows the familiar air-motion principle: conductor tracks on a pleated membrane, folds that close and open in the magnetic field, air expelled at a multiple of the foil velocity. What the TPL-150/H gains over the version without a horn is output and reach towards the low end; what it gives up is wide dispersion. The horn loading controls directivity and reduces the room contribution, an advantage in reverberant spaces and at longer listening distances.
