Celestion CDX1-1070: compact 1" ferrite driver with 106 dB and a PETP diaphragm
When a project needs a no-fuss 1" HF driver that combines output, robustness and low weight in an affordable package, Celestion's answer is the CDX1-1070. This CDX series driver has a ferrite magnet, a 1" voice coil of copper-clad aluminium and a single-piece PETP diaphragm with an integrally formed surround. The key figures: 12 W AES (24 W programme), 106 dB sensitivity, 8 Ω, frequency range 1,500 Hz to 20,000 Hz.
At 0.7 kg and 50 mm mounting depth it is a particularly light and shallow ferrite model within the CDX1 range. That is exactly what makes it interesting for small cabinets, ceiling speakers with a horn, monitor wedges and applications where many units are installed and every gram and millimetre counts. The polyester film tolerates humidity and rough transport, which for rental and installation gear is worth more than the last bit of HF resolution.
Use and enclosure
The minimum crossover frequency recommended by Celestion is 2,200 Hz at 12 dB/oct. At only 12 W AES you should take that limit seriously: a 12 dB/oct filter at 2,200 Hz is the floor, with 18 or 24 dB/oct you have more protection against diaphragm overload from low-frequency content. With passive crossovers an attenuator is also advisable so that the 106 dB matches the mid-woofer, and in active use a limiter.

Which dispersion you choose depends on the application: a wider horn for monitors and small rooms, a narrower one for throw into the depth of a venue. Frequently asked questions
Is the CDX1-1070 suitable for stage monitors?
For small wedges and moderate levels, yes, the 106 dB sensitivity is sufficient for that. On loud stages, however, you quickly hit the limit with 12 W AES. In that case choose a higher-rated model from the CDX series.
What is the difference between CDX1-1070 and CDX1-1010?
The CDX1-1010 is the sister model with slightly more power handling and sensitivity. The CDX1-1070 is lighter, shallower and cheaper. Diaphragm type, throat size and minimum crossover frequency are identical.
Which horn do I use for the CDX1-1070?
A Celestion 1" horn with matching mounting, for example the H1-9040P or the H1SC-9040 at 42.audio. For small two-way cabinets a wide pattern is more pleasant in the near field. The horn choice also determines the frequency from which loading takes effect.
