Celestion CDX1-1413: lightweight 1" neodymium compression driver with polyimide diaphragm and 106 dB
The Celestion CDX1-1413 is one of the compact neodymium models in the CDX series. It is a 1" compression driver with a 1.4" voice coil, a single-piece polyimide diaphragm including surround, and copper-clad aluminium wire in the coil. At 0.4 kg and 34.5 mm mounting depth it handles 35 W AES (70 W programme) and delivers 106 dB sensitivity at 8 Ω across 1,500 Hz to 20,000 Hz.
Celestion developed the driver specifically for highly portable applications. The neodymium magnet saves considerable mass compared with ferrite, and the polyimide film combines heat resistance with internal damping, so the treble does not become as aggressive as some metal diaphragms do in simple passive designs. The CDX1-1413 is the variant of the CDX1-1412 with a different build; both share all electrical and acoustic data.
Use and enclosure
In active compact cabinets the CDX1-1413 typically sits behind a small horn and takes over from about 2,000 Hz, the minimum crossover frequency recommended by Celestion at 12 dB/oct. Steeper filters allow you to move closer to that limit without loading the diaphragm with content below 1,500 Hz. A limiter in the HF channel is no luxury at 35 W AES but the insurance policy for everyday rental use.
