Celestion CDX1-1748: 1" screw-on driver, polyimide diaphragm, 60 W AES, 1,000–20,000 Hz
Built for threaded horns: the Celestion CDX1-1748 brings the polyimide technology of the CDX1-1747 to a screw-on version. That makes it the highest-rated 1" ferrite driver in the CDX series for horns that accept the driver on a thread. The data: 60 W AES, 120 W continuous, 110 dB sensitivity, 8 Ω, frequency range 1,000 to 20,000 Hz.
The diaphragm and surround are formed from a single piece of polyimide and soft-clamped in the Sound Castle assembly. This combination provides the thermal headroom the driver has over the PETP models and lower distortion at large excursion at the bottom of the band. The 1.75" voice coil of edgewound copper-clad aluminium wire sits in a 2.3 kg ferrite motor; mounting depth is 53 mm.
Use and enclosure
The recommended minimum crossover of 1,600 Hz at 12 dB/octave is the real reason to choose this driver: it is well below the floor of the PETP models and enables two-way designs with 12" mid-woofers where the transition falls into a region where the cone still radiates widely. With steep active filtering the figure is usable as is; with a passive 12 dB network allow a little safety margin upwards.

How low can I really cross?
1,600 Hz at 12 dB/octave is the manufacturer's floor. Steeper filters allow that figure to be used fully; with shallow passive networks the safe crossover is somewhat higher, because diaphragm excursion rises quickly below the crossover.
What application is this driver meant for?
