Celestion CF1540HD: 15" woofer with 1200 W AES, double suspension and 10.5 mm Xmax
The Celestion CF1540HD is the heavy-duty version of the 15" in the CF series: 1200 W AES on a 4" round copper wire voice coil, 97 dB at 8 Ω, rated band 35 to 2000 Hz. The double suspension guides the coil precisely in the gap at high excursion, twin demodulation rings linearise the magnetic flux, and the balanced airflow venting of the ferrite magnet keeps coil temperature under control during continuous load. The glass-loaded paper cone has a weather-resistant impregnation and sits in a cloth-sealed surround in a cast aluminium frame.
With Fs 40.8 Hz, Qts 0.305, Vas 108.3 l and 145.5 g of moving mass the driver is more stiffly suspended than the CF1540F, but the motor delivers 24.4 Tm and the suspension allows 10.5 mm Xmax. That is the design for high continuous bass levels, where excursion and heat are the limiting quantities. The EBP of 126 points to vented or horn loading.
Use and enclosure
The vented guideline is 54 l tuned to 50 Hz with a cut-off around 56 Hz. That is a compact, high-power 15" box for stage and rental use, running as a full-range top or as a kick-bass above a subwoofer. Sealed, the figures are about 25 l with a 95 Hz in-box resonance, where the driver only covers lower-mid and midrange.
