Celestion FTX1530: 15" coaxial with 3" coil, titanium tweeter and 106.5 dB
The FTX1530 is the 15" model of the Celestion FTX coaxial range and, unlike the smaller FTX models with polyimide HF diaphragms, uses titanium. The 3" LF voice coil of copper-clad aluminium on a glass-fibre former handles 75 W AES and 150 W continuous; together with a BL of 20.16 Tm and 106.5 dB sensitivity, this is a motor designed primarily for level and control in a 15" driver.
The dual-ferrite motor feeds both voice coils from one magnet system. Fs 42.5 Hz, Qts 0.276 and Vas 172.07 l describe a tightly driven woofer with Kevlar-loaded paper cone, 6 mm Xmax and polyimide surround. The tweeter operates from 800 Hz to 18,000 Hz with 90° nominal coverage, complemented by a demodulation ring and an available repair kit. Chassis: cast aluminium.
Use and enclosure
With an EBP of 143, bass reflex is the obvious choice. The guide value is 64 l tuned to 57 Hz with f3 around 67 Hz; for a 15" driver that is compact and shows that the FTX1530 is meant for punchy kick bass rather than deep bass. Sealed, the guide is about 31 l with fc at 109 Hz, useful as a coaxial mid section above a subwoofer. The exact alignment is best worked out with the 42.audio enclosure calculator.
The recommended crossover at 1,000 Hz with 12 dB/oct. is strikingly low for a coaxial, made possible because the titanium tweeter is rated from 800 Hz. This relieves the 15" cone, which would already beam strongly above 1,000 Hz, and gives a more even directivity through the transition. Applications: large stage monitors, two-way full-range tops for speech and live music, installations with high level demands.

- Mounting depth 176 mm, cutout 351 mm: allow for cabinet depth.

Frequently asked questions
Why does Celestion cross the FTX1530 so low at 1,000 Hz?
The HF section is rated from 800 Hz and has enough headroom with its titanium diaphragm. The lower the crossover, the less the 15" cone beams before handing over; directivity becomes more even. Steeper filters at 24 dB/oct. help the tweeter at this limit.
How big does the cabinet for the FTX1530 need to be?
Bass-reflex guide value 64 l at fb 57 Hz. That is on the small side for a 15", because Qts 0.276 and the strong motor do not need large volumes. Deep bass below the f3 of 67 Hz is left to a subwoofer.
What does the 3" voice coil bring?
More winding area spreads the heat better at 75 W AES, hence 150 W continuous. The BL of 20.16 Tm also shows how strongly the magnet system drives the larger coil. That pays off at sustained high levels.
