Celestion TF0510: 5" mid/bass driver with Kevlar-loaded cone, 30 W AES and 91 dB
Small drivers with a professional orientation are rare. The Celestion TF0510 is a 5" woofer from the TF series with a pressed steel frame, ferrite magnet and 1" voice coil on a polyimide former, built with 91 dB sensitivity and 30 W AES (60 W programme) for compact sound reinforcement tasks: small column speakers, installation cabinets, midrange compartments in 3-way systems and near-field applications. The response runs from 130 to 8000 Hz.
The cone is Kevlar-loaded paper, the cloth surround is sealed and the suspension is single. With only 7 g of moving mass and a BL of 6.82 Tm at Re 6.32 Ω, the five-inch driver reaches its sensitivity, while linear excursion is limited to 2.4 mm. Fs 128.1 Hz, Qts 0.58 and Vas 7.38 l describe a driver not built for deep bass but for a clean, robust mid/bass band in small enclosures. At 1 kg and 68 mm mounting depth it is mechanically straightforward too.
Use and enclosure
The EBP of 167 hints at bass reflex, but the relatively high Qts of 0.58 and the small cone favour a sealed enclosure in practice. The guide value is 15 l with a system resonance of 156 Hz. That is a generous volume for a five; built smaller, resonance and Q rise, which is unproblematic in the midrange chamber of a 3-way system as long as the crossover sits well above the system resonance. The response up to 8000 Hz makes the TF0510 interesting as a midrange: the hand-over to a tweeter can be high, which relaxes the demands on the tweeter. In a small 2-way cabinet it runs from 130 Hz upwards with a subwoofer taking over below. The cut-out is 117 mm.
What to look out for
- 30 W AES, 60 W programme: a small amplifier delivering 30 to 60 W into 8 Ω is enough, add a high-pass.
- Xmax 2.4 mm: excursion is limited, relieve it with a high-pass below about 130 Hz.
- 1 kg and 68 mm mounting depth: fits columns, ceiling installations and shallow cabinets.
- Qts 0.58: sealed rather than vented, guide value 15 l.
- Kevlar-loaded paper cone with sealed surround: robust for installation use.

What is the TF0510 best suited for?
As a midrange in a 3-way system or as a mid/bass driver in small installation and column speakers. With 91 dB and a response up to 8000 Hz it covers the speech band completely; with 2.4 mm Xmax it is not intended for deep bass.
How does the TF0510 differ from the TF0510MR?
The TF0510 is an open driver with a full set of Thiele-Small parameters that needs an enclosure and works from 130 Hz. The TF0510MR is a closed-back midrange unit that needs no chamber of its own but is only usable above 400 Hz.
How many TF0510 can I run in a column?
Electrically it depends on the wiring: at 8 Ω per driver, groups can be combined in series and parallel so the total impedance suits the amplifier. Several drivers increase power handling and narrow vertical dispersion, which is what you want in a column.
