Celestion TF1525e: 15" woofer with 300 W AES and extended bass range
With the TF1525e Celestion offers a version of its 15" ferrite woofer with a bigger motor and more excursion: BL 17.78 Tm, Xmax 5.25 mm, 300 W AES and 600 W programme power. The 2.5" edge-wound copper voice coil sits on a glass-fibre former, which handles more heat than the polyimide former used on other TF models. Sensitivity 97 dB, working band 45 to 3500 Hz.
The TSP: Fs 47.5 Hz, Qts 0.473, Qms 4.486, Vas 141.77 l, Mms 82.1 g, Re 6.82 Ω, Le 1.31 mH, Sd 855 cm². The EBP of 90 falls in the zone where vented and sealed are both reasonable. The fairly high Qts shows that this driver also prefers volume; the stronger motor makes the box somewhat smaller than for the TF1525, though. Pressed steel chassis, Kevlar-reinforced paper cone, cloth-sealed surround, 4.8 kg, mounting depth 163 mm.
Use and enclosure
Vented guideline: around 248 l tuned to 39 Hz, f3 about 35 Hz. Sealed: 115 l with fc at 71 Hz. If you have to build smaller, accept a hump in the upper bass or go sealed; the enclosure calculator on 42.audio plots the curves for your volume.
The TF1525e fits large two-way boxes with a horn, bass sections of three-way systems and subwoofer cabinets with plenty of volume. Cross over well below 3500 Hz; with a midrange above it the crossover can sit correspondingly lower. The 5.25 mm excursion gives a bit more headroom than the TF1525, but a high-pass below fb remains mandatory.
