Celestion TSQ1545: 15" neodymium subwoofer driver with 16 mm Xmax and 1800 W AES
The Celestion TSQ1545 is a 15" low-frequency driver from the TSQ series, built for subwoofers and bass sections with high continuous power: 1800 W AES, 3600 W programme, 96 dB sensitivity, working band 38 to 1000 Hz. The neodymium motor drives a 4.5" copper-clad aluminium voice coil on a glass-fibre former; linear excursion is 16 mm.
The design targets thermal and mechanical stability. A three-channel tuned venting system cools the coil across the whole frequency band; Celestion quotes a voice coil temperature up to 80 °C lower than comparable drivers. The suspension is polysiloxane-laminated, the surround triple-roll and cloth-sealed – that keeps excursion symmetrical. Lead-out wires are woven into the spider, and the glass-fibre-reinforced cellulose cone is weatherproof-coated on both sides. Cast aluminium chassis, 11.35 kg, mounting depth 210 mm. Use and enclosure
Vented guideline: around 67 l tuned to 42 Hz, f3 about 44 Hz. For a 15" subwoofer that is compact, and the large excursion makes sure the small volume still delivers level. Sealed: 30 l with fc at 79 Hz, in practice only interesting with DSP equalisation. Fine-tune, including port area for 1800 W, with the enclosure calculator on 42.audio – with this much excursion, port velocity is the issue.
Crossover to the tops typically around 100 Hz, in any case well below the 1000 Hz upper limit. It also works as the woofer in a large three-way box or in bandpass designs. A steep high-pass below fb protects the suspension when the full 3600 W programme is actually applied.
