Celestion TSQ1845: 18" neodymium woofer with 1800 W AES for touring subwoofers
Celestion designed the TSQ series for subwoofers that get driven with kilowatts night after night. The TSQ1845 is the 18" model with a neodymium motor, 1800 W AES, 3600 W programme and 96.5 dB sensitivity across 30 to 1000 Hz. The 4.5" round-wire copper voice coil on a glass-fibre former is cooled by a three-channel venting system that routes air past the coil deliberately rather than only through the pole vent.
The motor delivers BL 33.8 Tm at Re 5 Ω; the glass-fibre-reinforced cellulose cone weighs 316 g and is weatherproof-coated on both sides. Fs 35 Hz, Qts 0.29, Qms 8.712, Vas 119.3 l, Xmax 15 mm, Le 3.06 mH, Sd 1,134 cm². The double, polysiloxane-laminated suspension with triple-roll surround keeps the 15 mm excursion symmetrical, and the lead-out wires woven into the spider avoid tinsel slap. Cast aluminium chassis, 11.8 kg, mounting depth 235 mm.
Use and enclosure
With an EBP of 117 the TSQ1845 is a vented-box driver. The guideline from the approximations comes out very compact at around 51 l tuned to 45 Hz (f3 about 51 Hz) – a consequence of the low Qts. In practice most designers pick a larger volume with lower tuning to get closer to 30 Hz; the trade-off is cabinet size and slightly less excursion control below fb. Sealed: 24 l with fc at 85 Hz, only sensible with DSP equalisation. The enclosure calculator on 42.audio shows you both options.
Cross over to the tops around 100 Hz, add a steep high-pass below the tuning frequency and a limiter that stays within the 3600 W programme rating. With 15 mm Xmax and this cone area the port sets the limit: size the port area generously, otherwise airflow noise limits before the driver does.

- BL 33.8 Tm, Qts 0.29: very tight motor, compact vented boxes possible.
- Xmax 15 mm, Sd 1,134 cm²: large displacement for low bass.

Frequently asked questions
How small can the enclosure for the TSQ1845 be?
The guideline is around 51 l with fb at 45 Hz. That works but does not deliver the 30 Hz of the lower limit. For depth, plan bigger and tune lower; the enclosure calculator shows the consequences.
TSQ1845 or the larger model of the TSQ series?
The larger model has more area and a resonance at 30 Hz but needs more volume. The TSQ1845 is the more compact solution with the same BL, the same excursion and the same power handling.
Which power amplifier for the TSQ1845?
