Celestion TSQ2160: 21" neodymium subwoofer with 6" voice coil and 2500 W AES
The TSQ2160 is the 21" model of the TSQ series with a 6" voice coil: 2500 W AES, 5000 W programme, 97.5 dB sensitivity, 30 to 300 Hz. The round-wire copper coil on a glass-fibre former works in a neodymium motor with BL 43.15 Tm; linear excursion is 18.75 mm. Unlike the other TSQ models, the TSQ2160 is specified purely as a subwoofer driver.
The parameters: Fs 30 Hz, Qts 0.257, Qes 0.264, Qms 10.29, Vas 234.8 l, Mms 482.7 g, Re 5.4 Ω, Le 2.5 mH, Sd 1,684 cm². The very low Qts gives an EBP of 114 – a driver for vented and horn-loaded enclosures with firm control over the heavy cone. The glass-fibre-reinforced cellulose cone is weatherproof-coated on both sides, the suspension is double and polysiloxane-laminated, the surround triple-roll. Three-channel coil venting, woven-in lead-out wires, cast aluminium chassis, 21 kg, mounting depth 253.1 mm.
Use and enclosure
Vented guideline: about 71 l tuned to 43 Hz, f3 around 52 Hz – strikingly small for a 21", which follows directly from Qts 0.257. If you want to reach 30 Hz, build bigger and tune lower; the strong motor forgives that because it keeps the cone under control even in large volumes. Sealed: 36 l with fc at 83 Hz, practical only with DSP. The enclosure calculator on 42.audio delivers the curves for your volume.
Applications: touring subwoofers, bass horns and installations where a single driver has to do the work of several smaller ones. Cross over around 100 Hz, at the latest at the 300 Hz upper limit. With 5000 W programme a limiter is not optional but a prerequisite; the same goes for the high-pass below fb.
