18Sound HD2000: 1.4" compression driver with 2.4" titanium diaphragm and 108 dB
Between the 1" models and the big 3" drivers of the HD series sits the 18Sound HD2000. Its 1.4" horn interface carries a titanium diaphragm with a 2.4" voice coil, and exactly this size makes it versatile: crossable low enough for two-way tops, yet clearly lighter and shorter than the 3" models. At 2.8 kg and 65 mm mounting depth it remains manageable.
The power rating is 70 W AES, the sensitivity 108 dB and the impedance 8 Ω. The frequency range starts at 1 kHz and extends to 20 kHz. Titanium as a diaphragm material stands for high power handling and a present, detailed treble; the ferrite magnet for a thermally stable motor without compromises in magnetic force.
Use and enclosure
The recommended crossover is 1.0 kHz and up. In practice that puts the transition to a 12" woofer right where two-way tops are usually crossed. With 70 W AES the HD2000 has enough headroom for live use, as long as the high-pass is steep enough and a limiter caps the continuous power.
The 35 mm exit fits all 1.4" horns. From the 18Sound range at 42.audio, the 1.4" horns and the 1.4" waveguide in the horns and waveguides category are options. A waveguide should be chosen with care for a crossover around 1 kHz; classic horns load more safely in that region.
What to look out for
- 2.4" titanium diaphragm on a 1.4" interface: crossover from 1.0 kHz
- 70 W AES at 108 dB, matches 12" woofers
- 2.8 kg and 65 mm mounting depth: lighter than the 3" models of the series
- 8 Ω impedance, uncritical for passive and active crossovers
- 35 mm exit for 1.4" horns
Frequently asked questions
What is the HD2000 made for?
Two-way tops with a 12" woofer and a crossover around 1 kHz. It is the middle ground between the small 1" drivers and the heavy 3" models.
Which horn fits the HD2000?
Any 1.4" horn. At 42.audio we carry several 18Sound 1.4" horns with different coverage angles. For a low crossover, prefer a large horn over a compact waveguide.
HD2000 or the 2" version, what is the difference?
Same 2.4" titanium diaphragm, same 70 W AES and 108 dB. The 2" version has a correspondingly larger horn interface and is heavier and longer. Take the HD2000 if your horn is 1.4".
At 42.audio you get the 18SOUND HD2000 with datasheet PDF, all key data in the driver database. More drivers from this manufacturer: Atlas 18Sound.
