18Sound ND3T: lightweight 1.4" compression driver with titanium diaphragm and 112 dB
1.65 kg for a compression driver with a 3" voice coil – that is the core message of the ND3T. 18Sound (Eighteen Sound) relies on neodymium in the ND series, and in the base version with the compact magnet assembly the result is a driver light enough for flown tops, mobile sound reinforcement and cabinets with a tight weight budget. Titanium diaphragm, 1.4" exit of 36 mm, 112 dB sensitivity and 110 W AES complete the picture.
The working range runs from 800 Hz to 20,000 Hz, the recommended crossover frequency is 1.2 kHz. Titanium is the established diaphragm material in PA: high tensile strength, good temperature resistance, insensitive to humidity. The 3" coil provides the thermal reserve and the diaphragm area a 1.4" driver needs to play cleanly from the upper midrange upwards.
Use and enclosure
The ND3T is the all-rounder of the ND3 family: two-way tops, monitor wedges, installation cabinets, horn systems for the home. At 18Sound the 1.4" horns XT1464, XR1464C, XR1496C, PR614 and H860 3D Print fit, as does the XG14 Alu waveguide. For stage monitors where depth counts, the driver's 53 mm are an argument – together with a shallow horn the wedge stays low.
Cross at 1.2 kHz and up with a steep high-pass; 800 Hz is the absolute lower limit and not advisable in live use. With passive crossovers plan a series capacitor for protection and match the level to the woofer with an attenuator – 112 dB is typically well above the sensitivity of a woofer in the same cabinet.

- 8 Ω – uncritical, any power amp will do; plan for a limiter.
- 1.65 kg – low weight for a 3" titanium driver, good for flown cabinets.
- 53 mm depth – for shallow monitors and compact tops.

Frequently asked questions
What separates the ND3T from the ND3ST?
The ND3ST has the larger motor and more weight; the ND3T at 1.65 kg and 110 W AES is the light version. With the recommended crossover and moderate levels the ND3T is fully adequate; for full level close to 800 Hz the ST is the better choice.
Which horn for a compact two-way cabinet?
At 18Sound the H860 3D Print and the XG14 Alu waveguide are the candidates, both with a 1.4" throat; the deciding factors are the coverage you want and the front area available in the cabinet. For larger baffles the XT1464 and XR1496C join the list.
How much amplifier power do I need?
Little. At 112 dB sensitivity the driver reaches high levels with a fraction of what the woofer needs. A channel with a clean limiter matters more than high power – compression drivers die from clipping and low frequencies, not from watts.
