18SOUND XG10 Alu: 1" aluminium waveguide for line-array modules
The 18SOUND XG10 Alu is a waveguide for compression drivers with a 1" throat, made of aluminium and light at 0.4 kg. Eighteen Sound lists it under line-array sources: the waveguide shapes the driver's output so it can be used as a line element in an array, rather than radiating a wide cone like a classic horn.
The difference from a conventional horn is fundamental. A line-array waveguide produces an approximately flat wavefront with a narrow vertical opening. Several modules mounted on top of each other then couple into one long source that beams tightly in the vertical plane and loses less level with distance than a point source. Aluminium provides dimensional stability at low wall thickness; that matters because the exit slot must be precise for the coupling between modules to work.

You use the XG10 Alu in compact line-array modules or column loudspeakers built around 1" drivers: small arrays for speech and music in mid-sized rooms, column speakers for installations, or your own designs where several 1" drivers are to work in a line. The crossover frequency is set by the driver; small 1" diaphragms need a higher crossover than larger throat formats, but in return they extend further up. In an array the module spacing also matters: the waveguides must butt together without gaps, otherwise high-frequency interference appears. Can I use the XG10 Alu as a normal horn in a single cabinet?
Technically yes, but the dispersion is designed for line operation: wide horizontally, narrow vertically. In a single cabinet the vertical coverage is missing; a classic horn from the Horns & Waveguides category fits better then.
Which drivers fit?
1" compression drivers from 18Sound; throat diameter and bolt pattern must match the waveguide. For an array, use the same driver in every module so level and phase stay consistent along the line.
How many modules do I need?
That depends on the vertical directivity you want and the lowest frequency down to which the line should act as a line: the longer the line, the lower the control extends. Small rooms need only a few modules, long rooms correspondingly more.
