Beyma 12LEX1300Nd: 12" neodymium woofer with 4" voice coil, 1300 W AES and 96 dB
The 12LEX1300Nd is the neodymium flagship of the LEX series in 12" format: 4" voice coil, 1300 W AES power handling, 96 dB sensitivity and an operating range of 45 to 1500 Hz. At 8.3 kg it weighs less than the ferrite 12LEX1000Fe despite the larger motor, which counts in touring boxes and line-array bass modules.
The numbers describe a very strongly driven bass unit: BL 26.4 Tm on 125 g of moving mass, Qes 0.25 and Qts 0.24, Qms 4.2. Fs 45 Hz and Vas 43 l are moderate for a 12" woofer, but the low Qts pushes the volume requirement from the classic formulas far down. Xmax 11 mm on 550 cm² of cone area gives 605 cm³ of displacement, Le is 1.3 mH and Re 5 Ω.
Use and enclosure
From the Thiele-Small parameters the reflex guide value is a volume around 11 l tuned to 68 Hz with an f3 near 86 Hz, sealed about 5.6 l with fc around 133 Hz. The EBP of 180 makes it clear: this is a driver for bass reflex, bandpass or horn loading, not for sealed boxes. Because the approximation formulas return very small volumes at Qts 0.24, it pays to also simulate larger volumes with lower tuning in the enclosure calculator at 42.audio and check the excursion curve at 1300 W.
The crossover to the midrange sits well below the 1500 Hz upper limit. In compact PA boxes with a 12" bass and a compression driver, the 12LEX1300Nd handles bass and lower midbass; for the treble, 42.audio carries Beyma's compression drivers and horns.
What to look out for
- 8 Ω nominal, Re 5 Ω: amplifier with 1300 W into 8 Ω, plan for limiter and high-pass.
- 4" voice coil with neodymium: 8.3 kg, high thermal and mechanical reserves.
- Mounting depth 176 mm: deeper than the 12LEX1000Fe, account for it in the cabinet design.
- Qts 0.24, EBP 180: bass reflex or horn loading, not a sealed box.
- Xmax 11 mm, Vd 605 cm³: protect excursion below the tuning with a high-pass filter.
Frequently asked questions
How does the 12LEX1300Nd compare with the B&C 12NDL88?
The 12NDL88 has almost the same motor character at Fs 48 Hz and Qts 0.24, but a larger volume requirement with Vas 57 l. The 12LEX1300Nd copes with smaller cabinets at Vas 43 l and brings 1300 W AES at 96 dB.
Which enclosure makes sense?
Bass reflex around 11 l at 68 Hz is the calculated guide value; in practice you should also simulate larger volumes with lower tuning. Sealed gives little low-end at Qts 0.24.
How does it relate to the 18Sound 12ND730?
The 12ND730 has Fs 45 Hz, Qts 0.23 and Vas 90 l, so a much larger volume requirement with a similar motor character. The 12LEX1300Nd at Vas 43 l is designed for compact cabinets.
Beyma 12LEX1300Nd: manufacturer, spellings and classification
Beyma and Acustica Beyma refer to the same manufacturer: Acústica Beyma S.L. of Moncada near Valencia, Spain. The 12LEX1300Nd is a 12-inch woofer with neodymium magnet from the LEX series, available from 42.audio, Beyma dealer in Germany, with datasheet and full specifications in the driver database.
At 42.audio you get the BEYMA 12LEX1300Nd with all key data in the driver database and the enclosure calculator. More drivers from this manufacturer: Atlas Beyma.

Enclosure suggestion
The EBP of 180 suggests a bass-reflex enclosure. EBP = fs / Qes = 45 / 0.25
Sealed (Qtc 0.707)
- Enclosure volume Vb
- 5.6 l
- System resonance Fc
- 133 Hz
- Cut-off frequency F3
- 133 Hz
Bass reflex (QB3 after Small)recommended
- Enclosure volume Vb
- 7.7 l
- Tuning frequency Fb
- 77 Hz
- Cut-off frequency F3
- 96 Hz
Vb is the required net internal volume, Fb the tuning frequency of the reflex port and F3 the frequency at which the level has dropped by 3 dB. Calculated approximation after Small. A starting point for simulation, not a finished build plan.
