Beyma 12LX60V2: 12" woofer with 4" voice coil, 700 W AES and extension down to 35 Hz
Among Beyma's 12" woofers, the 12LX60V2 from the LX series is the one with the lowest stated operating range: 35 to 2000 Hz. Add a 4" voice coil, 700 W AES and 96 dB sensitivity. The driver is designed for reflex boxes that are meant to deliver real low bass from a 12" unit, such as compact subwoofers or full-range boxes with a serious bass foundation.
The parameters: Fs 49 Hz, Qts 0.38, Qes 0.4 and Vas 43 l with a BL of 20 Tm on 102 g of moving mass. The Qms of 15.3 stands out, a sign of very low mechanical losses in surround and spider. Xmax 9 mm on 550 cm² of cone area gives 500 cm³ of displacement. At 122 mm mounting depth it is shallow for a 12" bass driver, and the weight is 9.7 kg.
Use and enclosure
The EBP of 122 sits close to the boundary where both enclosure types work, but the guide values clearly favour bass reflex: a volume around 40 l tuned to 49 Hz with an f3 also near 49 Hz. For a 12" driver that is very usable extension in a cabinet that can still be built as a compact box. Sealed it would be 17 l with a cut-off around 91 Hz. Check the alignment with port cross-section, port length and excursion at 700 W in the enclosure calculator at 42.audio.
With its 2000 Hz upper limit the 12LX60V2 can run up to the handover to a compression driver in a two-way box, provided the crossover sits well below 2000 Hz; Le of 2.1 mH makes the impedance rise noticeably towards the top, which the crossover must account for. In a 3-way system it is the bass driver working up to the crossover to a midrange.
What to look out for
- 8 Ω nominal, Re 5.1 Ω: amplifier with 700 W into 8 Ω, set a high-pass below 49 Hz.
- Mounting depth just 122 mm: suitable for shallow bass cabinets.
- Qms 15.3: very low mechanical losses, damping comes from the motor.
- Le 2.1 mH: factor the impedance rise into the crossover if you cross high.
- Reflex guide value 40 l at 49 Hz: f3 near 49 Hz from a 12" driver.
Frequently asked questions
Is the 12LX60V2 suitable as a subwoofer?
For a compact 12" subwoofer, yes: bass reflex around 40 l at 49 Hz with an f3 near 49 Hz and 9 mm Xmax is a coherent package. If you want to go deeper still, you need a larger driver or more excursion.
Can I run it up to the tweeter in a two-way box?
The stated range extends to 2000 Hz, and the crossover should sit well below that. The Le of 2.1 mH is the factor the crossover has to account for.
Is there a comparable driver?
The B&C 12PLB100 is very close to the 12LX60V2 at Fs 50 Hz, Qts 0.37 and Vas 47 l and ends up in a similar enclosure. The 12LX60V2 is available in the 42.audio shop, the 12PLB100 is listed in the driver database.
Beyma 12LX60V2: manufacturer, spellings and classification
Beyma and Acustica Beyma refer to the same manufacturer: Acústica Beyma S.L. of Moncada near Valencia, Spain. The 12LX60V2 is a 12-inch woofer from the LX series, available from 42.audio, Beyma dealer in Germany, with datasheet and full specifications in the driver database.
At 42.audio you get the BEYMA 12LX60V2 with all key data in the driver database and the enclosure calculator. More drivers from this manufacturer: Atlas Beyma.
