Beyma 15LX60V2: 15" woofer with Qts 0.44 for large vented and sealed enclosures

Not every 15" bass wants a small box. With Qts 0.44 the Beyma 15LX60V2 from the LX series is deliberately tuned softer than the usual PA drivers and shows its strengths in large vented boxes and in sealed enclosures – where extension matters more than minimal volume. 700 W AES, 98 dB sensitivity, 8 Ω and a working range from 30 to 1,500 Hz set the frame.

The parameters tell the story: Fs 42 Hz, Vas 105.53 l and an EBP of 93 permit both enclosure types. A Qms of 21.23 stands for an extremely low-loss mechanical suspension, and Le of 2.1 mH is comparatively high for a 4" voice coil, showing that the driver should not be asked to work above the bass range. With 8 mm Xmax and 728 cm³ of displacement over 0.091 m² of cone area the 15LX60V2 brings decent stroke for deep bass. The moving mass of 147 g and BL 21.1 Tm suit a bass that wants to be deep rather than hard-hitting.

Use and enclosure

The vented guide value is large at 150 l tuned to 37 Hz – in return f3 sits at 34 Hz, an extension hardly any 15" PA bass reaches in a simple vented box. That predestines the 15LX60V2 for home cinema subwoofers, for hi-fi bass sections in large floor-standers and for bass cabinets where volume is no object. The sealed variant with 67 l and fc 67 Hz is the compact alternative that works very well with a DSP bass boost in a home cinema. In practice you will not exploit the upper limit of 1,500 Hz: cross well below it so the high voice-coil inductance does not intrude into the midrange. At 142 mm mounting depth the driver is comparatively shallow and also fits cabinets with limited depth. A high-pass below the tuning frequency is advisable with a vented box; in a sealed box the air spring limits excursion by itself.

What to look out for

  • Qts 0.44 and EBP 93: a sealed box works just as well as vented.
  • Vented guide value 150 l / 37 Hz – allow the space, in return f3 around 34 Hz.
  • Mounting depth 142 mm, weight 10.2 kg: shallow for a 15" driver of this class.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 15LX60V2 a good home cinema subwoofer?

Yes, that is one of its core fields. Sealed at 67 l with fc 67 Hz it can be cleanly equalised downward via DSP; in a vented box of 150 l it reaches f3 around 34 Hz without electronics. Its 98 dB sensitivity also makes it undemanding in terms of amplifier power.

Why is the enclosure so much larger than with other 15" bass drivers?

Because with Qts 0.44 and Vas 105.53 l the driver is deliberately suspended softly and damped less than typical PA basses. That costs volume but brings extension and allows sealed boxes, which do not work with a low Qts.

How does it differ from the 18 Sound 15TLW3000?

Both have Fs 42 Hz and Qts 0.44, so very similar enclosure behaviour. The 15TLW3000 has an even larger Vas at 140 l; the 15LX60V2 at 105.53 l gets by with slightly less volume for the same alignment.
