Beyma 6MI100: 6" midrange with 2" voice coil, 250 W AES and 94 dB
A classic 6" cone midrange: the Beyma 6MI100 from the MI series covers 100 to 8,000 Hz, handles 250 W AES and reaches 94 dB sensitivity. The 2" voice coil is generous for a 6" driver and the reason for the high power rating; the weight of 3 kg points to a substantial magnet motor.
With Fs 128 Hz, Qts 0.51 and Vas 3.1 l the EBP is 233, so the driver is a pure midrange with no ambitions in the lower mids. The motor with a BL of 10.8 Tm moves 14 g of cone mass on 140 cm² of area, and the Qms of 8.6 indicates a low-loss suspension. The Xmax of 3 mm (Vd 42 cm³) is entirely sufficient for midrange duty above the resonance.
Use and enclosure
The 6MI100 belongs in a sealed midrange chamber. As a guide value about 3.4 l gives an fc of 177 Hz; set the crossover to the bass well above the lower limit of 100 Hz, which puts it around or above the fc where the driver works under control. Frequently asked questions
Does the 6MI100 fit a 3-way PA box with a 15" bass driver?
Yes, that is its typical role. At 94 dB it sits slightly below many 15" drivers in level, which can be balanced in the crossover by padding the bass or by gain in an active system. A sealed chamber around 3.4 l is enough.
How does the 6MI100 differ from the 6MCF200Nd?
The 6MI100 starts at 100 Hz and with Fs 128 Hz has a much lower resonance, so it can be crossed lower. The 6MCF200Nd is a neodymium driver for 400 to 12,000 Hz, more specialised and more efficient, but without extension.
Which amplifier is recommended?
At 94 dB and 250 W AES into 8 Ω little power is needed for home use. In active systems the channel should have a high-pass above 100 Hz so that the 3 mm Xmax is not consumed by low-frequency signals.
