Beyma 6P200Nd: 6" neodymium mid-woofer with 200 W AES, 92 dB and 1.9 kg

The Beyma 6P200Nd is the lightweight version of the 6" mid-woofer from the P series: neodymium magnet, 1.9 kg, 86 mm mounting depth. Electrically it keeps the 2" voice coil with 200 W AES, 8 Ω nominal impedance and 92 dB sensitivity, acoustically the transmission range of 60 Hz to 9000 Hz. It is intended for tops, monitors and line-array modules where the weight of the ferrite model gets in the way.

The Thiele-Small parameters show a driver with Fs 56 Hz, Qts 0.29, Qes 0.32 and Vas 11.9 l. Motor BL 10.5 Tm on 17 g of moving mass, Qms 3.7 indicating a well damped suspension. With Xmax 5.5 mm the displacement is 74.2 cm³. The EBP of 175 says: vented box for the lower midband, midrange chamber for 3-way use, not a candidate for sealed bass cabinets.

Use and enclosure

The vented guideline comes out at 5.1 l with fb 72 Hz and f3 around 82 Hz. That is a little more volume and a little more extension than the ferrite model, which makes the 6P200Nd interesting for compact 2-way tops with subwoofer support. For midrange duty in a 3-way system a sealed chamber of about 2.4 l with fc around 137 Hz is the starting point, with the lower crossover set well above 60 Hz. The upper crossover sits below 9000 Hz, sensibly where a compression driver on a horn radiates about as widely as the 6" cone. Suitable Beyma horns and waveguides are found in that category at 42.audio.

The inductance of 0.6 mH is a little higher than on the ferrite model but still low enough for a straightforward passive crossover. With Re 5.3 Ω and 200 W AES a mid-power amplifier is sufficient; a limiter makes sense with neodymium motors because the magnet material is more sensitive to heat than ferrite.

What to look out for

  • Neodymium magnet: 1.9 kg and 86 mm mounting depth for light tops and arrays.
  • Xmax 5.5 mm and Vd 74.2 cm³: slightly more excursion than the ferrite model.
  • Qms 3.7: damped suspension, uncritical behaviour around Fs 56 Hz.
  • Le 0.6 mH: easy to handle passively, irrelevant in active setups.
  • Neodymium and 2" coil: fit a limiter, heat is the enemy of the magnet.

Frequently asked questions

When is the 6P200Nd worth it over the 6P200Fe?

When weight counts: 1.9 kg versus the ferrite model. Parametrically the 6P200Nd sits slightly softer and lower with Fs 56 Hz, Qts 0.29 and Vas 11.9 l than the 6P200Fe with Fs 58 Hz, Qts 0.26 and Vas 11.1 l; the ferrite model is a touch higher in sensitivity in return.

Which volume for a small stage monitor?

Vented around 5.1 l with fb 72 Hz as a guideline, f3 then around 82 Hz. That is enough for monitoring vocals and instruments; the range below is better left to a subwoofer. Run the box through the enclosure calculator at 42.audio.

How does the 6P200Nd compare with the SB Audience ROSSO-6MW150D?

The ROSSO-6MW150D has a higher resonance and a smaller equivalent volume with Fs 66 Hz, Qts 0.32 and Vas 8.8 l. The 6P200Nd starts lower with Fs 56 Hz and Vas 11.9 l and offers a little more lower midband in a matching vented box.

Beyma 6P200Nd: manufacturer, spellings and classification

Beyma and Acustica Beyma refer to the same manufacturer: Acústica Beyma S.L. of Moncada near Valencia, Spain. The 6P200Nd is a 6-inch woofer with neodymium magnet from the P series, available from 42.audio, Beyma dealer in Germany, with datasheet and full specifications in the driver database.

At 42.audio you get the BEYMA 6P200Nd with all key data in the driver database and the enclosure calculator. More drivers from this manufacturer: Atlas Beyma.
