Beyma 8MC300Nd: lightweight 8" neodymium midrange with 96 dB and 300 W AES
1.9 kg for an 8" driver with a 2" voice coil and 300 W AES: the Beyma 8MC300Nd from the MC series shows what a neodymium motor does for weight. With 96 dB sensitivity and a range of 80 to 4,000 Hz it is intended as a midrange driver for line-array modules, lightweight tops and monitors where every kilogram counts.
The motor is strong: BL 12.8 Tm on 41 g Mms, Fs 62 Hz and Vas 18 l on 220 cm² of cone area. The Xmax of 5.2 mm gives a Vd of 114 cm³. The high Qms of 7.8 stands for low mechanical losses, the low Qts of 0.22 for strong electrical damping; the EBP of 155 points to bass-reflex or horn loading if you want to run the driver low.
Use and enclosure
For the midrange role in a 3-way box a sealed midrange chamber is the usual route; the guide value of about 1.9 l with fc at 199 Hz comes out very small and should be checked with the enclosure calculator at 42.audio using the full parameter set. Set the crossover to the bass well above the lower limit of 80 Hz.
