Beyma CD-151Fe/PK: 1" compression driver with 1.5" coil, 70 W AES, 44.4 mm shallow
Between the small CD-101 models and the larger drivers of the series, Beyma positions the CD-151Fe/PK: 1" horn throat, 1.5" voice coil, 70 W AES and a frequency range of 900 to 20,000 Hz. The ferrite magnet delivers 6 Tm, nominal impedance is 8 Ω and weight 1.3 kg. Notable is the mounting depth of 44.4 mm, which is tight for a ferrite driver with this power rating.
The 1.5" coil is a compromise with a clear goal: more thermal reserve than a 1.1" coil, but a lighter diaphragm than in the large models, which keeps the range open up to 20,000 Hz. The 900 Hz resonance sits accordingly between the two classes. That makes the driver the right choice for two-way boxes with a 10" or 12" woofer, where the crossover is higher than in large systems but the treble should be fully covered. The CD-151Fe/PT variant differs only in the diaphragm version.
Use and enclosure
The CD-151Fe/PK works on 1" horns from Beyma's Horns & Waveguides category or on documented 1" horns such as the 18Sound XT1086 Alu, XR1064 Alu, XT120 and Celestion H1SC-8050. Thanks to the shallow 44.4 mm depth it can be combined with a flat waveguide into an HF module that fits slim cabinets. For stage monitors a wide-coverage horn makes sense, for small front systems a model with defined directivity.
Cross over at least an octave above 900 Hz and filter at 12 dB/octave or steeper; 24 dB/octave in DSP is standard. The 70 W AES rating refers to filtered noise above the crossover frequency. In a passive design you reduce the level with an L-pad and place a capacitor in series; in an active one, high-pass, limiter and delay in the DSP provide the protection. At 1.3 kg the ferrite model is still easily portable for mobile tops.
