Beyma CP-09: compression tweeter with 1" coil, 90 W AES and use from 2,000 Hz
The Beyma CP-09 belongs to the CP series, Beyma's compression tweeters with a permanently integrated horn. Unlike a compression driver with screw or bolt-on throat, it is a complete unit: HF motor and horn mouth form one part that mounts directly into the baffle. The voice coil measures 1", the weight is 0.6 kg, the mounting depth 96 mm.
With 90 W AES the CP-09 offers real headroom for PA use and covers 2,000 to 20,000 Hz. The force factor of 4 Tm acts on the very light diaphragm of a compression tweeter, so it is enough for the required efficiency in the treble. The 8 Ω impedance keeps things simple both passively and actively.
Use and enclosure
The operating range starts at 2,000 Hz. For a passive crossover at 12 dB/oct. you should place the crossover well above that so the diaphragm does not work right down to its lower limit; with 24 dB/oct. active you can get closer. A series resistor or voltage divider is usually needed, because compression tweeters have higher sensitivity than the mid-woofer they are combined with.
Typical applications: two-way PA boxes with a mid-woofer, stage monitors, HF extension in full-range systems, replacement in existing Beyma cabinets. No separate horn is needed; if you want a different coverage pattern, choose a compression driver with horn throat and a model from Beyma's Horns & Waveguides category instead.
What to look out for
- 8 Ω: on passive crossovers with level matching, actively on any amplifier.
- Mounting depth 96 mm, weight 0.6 kg.
- Lower limit 2,000 Hz: cross over higher, filter at least 12 dB/oct.
- 90 W AES: power headroom for PA use.
- Integrated horn: no separate horn throat required.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a horn for the CP-09?
No. The CP-09 is a compression tweeter with a built-in horn and mounts directly into the baffle. A cutout and screws are all it takes.
Where do I cross over to the mid-woofer?
The usable range starts at 2,000 Hz. Passively at 12 dB/oct. you go clearly above that for safety, actively at 24 dB/oct. you can get closer to 2,000 Hz. A capacitor as extra protection against DC and low frequencies never hurts.
Which amplifier for the CP-09?
The CP-09 handles 90 W AES into 8 Ω. In a passive two-way box the mid-woofer dictates the amplifier power; the tweeter only receives its share above the crossover. Actively, a small amplifier is enough, the high-pass is what matters.
