Beyma CP-750/Ti: 2" compression driver with titanium diaphragm and 2.85" voice coil
A 2" horn exit means one thing above all in practice: the driver can work lower than its 1" counterparts, because a large throat is paired with a correspondingly large horn. That is exactly what the Beyma CP-750/Ti is built for. Its frequency range starts at 600 Hz and extends to 20,000 Hz, with power handling of 70 W AES at 8 Ω.
The titanium diaphragm indicated by the Ti suffix is the standard material for PA drivers when high stiffness and thermal resistance are required. Behind it sits a 2.85" voice coil in a motor with a BL of 10 Tm. At 7.05 kg the CP-750/Ti is no lightweight; the mass comes from a conventional magnet system that needs no neodymium and is irrelevant in fixed installations.
Use and enclosure
The CP-750/Ti belongs in two-way systems with a 12" woofer or a larger cone where the high-frequency section should take over in the upper midrange. At 42.audio the 18Sound XR2064C is available as a 2" horn; Beyma's own 2" horns are in the Horns & Waveguides category. Bolt patterns on 2" drivers are largely standardised, but checking the flange drawing never hurts.
On the crossover: 600 Hz is the lower limit of the usable range. A 24 dB/octave high-pass should sit noticeably above it; with a very large horn you can move closer. The 88 mm mounting depth is pleasantly short for a 2" driver of this class and fits into shallower top cabinets. If you want to draw the full 70 W AES continuously, run the amplifier channel with a limiter.
What to look out for
- 2" horn exit: designed for large horns and low crossover frequencies.
- Titanium diaphragm with 2.85" voice coil: robust against thermal stress.
- 7.05 kg: heavy ferrite driver, so build the horn mount accordingly.
- 70 W AES at 8 Ω: amplifier with limiter recommended.
- Lower limit 600 Hz: cross over above it with a steep slope.
Frequently asked questions
What separates the CP-750/Ti from the CP-800/Ti?
Both are 2" drivers with titanium diaphragms, but the CP-800/Ti has a larger voice coil, a stronger motor and higher power handling. With its 2.85" coil and 70 W AES the CP-750/Ti is the more compact and lighter choice for medium levels.
Which horn fits?
Any 2" horn, for example the 18Sound XR2064C or the Beyma horns from the Horns & Waveguides category. The larger the horn, the closer the crossover may approach the 600 Hz limit.
Is this driver suitable for fixed installation?
Yes, there the 7.05 kg weight does not matter, and the ferrite magnet system is insensitive to temperature swings. For flown or portable systems the neodymium versions of the CP series are the lighter alternative.
