Beyma CP-755Nd: 1.4" neodymium compression driver, 2.85" coil, 60 W AES from 600 Hz
2.9 kg for a compression driver with a 2.85" voice coil and a 1.4" horn exit: that is the headline of the Beyma CP-755Nd. The neodymium magnet makes possible what would weigh more than twice as much with ferrite, and the motor still produces a BL of 11.5 Tm. The driver runs at 8 Ω, handles 60 W AES and covers 600 Hz to 20,000 Hz.
The 1.4" format sits between the small 1" drivers and the big 2" models, and for many designers it is the most sensible compromise: it can be crossed low enough for a two-way top with a large cone, yet has a clearly smaller throat than a 2" driver, which benefits reproduction in the top octaves. Within the CP series the CP-755Nd is the neodymium counterpart to the CP-755Ti with the same coil diameter.
Use and enclosure
The CP-755Nd is a candidate for tops with a 12" woofer or a larger cone, for flown two-way systems and for portable cabinets where every kilo on stage counts. With a mounting depth of only 66 mm it also fits into shallow enclosures.

Frequently asked questions
CP-755Nd or CP-755Ti, which one is better?
Both share the throat size and the 2.85" voice coil. The CP-755Nd is the much lighter neodymium version at 2.9 kg with a stronger motor, the CP-755Ti the heavier ferrite version. For portable and flown systems the weight clearly favours the Nd.
Which amplifier is appropriate?
An 8 Ω channel in the power class of the 60 W AES rating, with a limiter in active use. Compression drivers need little power because of their high efficiency; excess only endangers the coil.
How low may the crossover be?
600 Hz is the lower limit of the frequency range. With a steep high-pass the crossover frequency should be at least an octave above it; only with a very large horn and low levels can you move closer.
