Beyma SMC-225Nd: 1" neodymium compression driver at 0.7 kg for lightweight cabinets
Compression drivers that weigh barely more than a dome tweeter are rare. The Beyma SMC-225Nd tips the scales at 0.7 kg, which makes it a 1" driver for designs where weight and depth are tight: columns, compact monitors, installation boxes or small active speakers. Mounting depth is only 57 mm, and power handling is 40 W AES at 8 Ω.
The SMC series is Beyma's line of compact compression drivers, and the SMC-225Nd is its neodymium version with a 1.75" voice coil. The frequency range spans 800 Hz to 20,000 Hz, and the motor delivers a BL of 8 Tm. That is more motor force than you would expect at this weight, and exactly why neodymium makes so much sense in small drivers: the magnet sits right at the air gap and needs no heavy iron return path.
