18Sound NSD1095N: Compact 1" Neodymium Driver with 1.75" Coil and 110 dB
Small, light, loud: the 18Sound NSD1095N is a 1" compression driver from the NSD series with a neodymium magnet, 1.75" voice coil and a diaphragm made of nitride-coated titanium. Weighing 1.1 kg with 53 mm mounting depth, it belongs to the drivers that still fit inside a small two-way box or a low-profile stage monitor.
The NSD diaphragm is the reason to prefer this driver over a plain titanium version: the nitride coating stiffens the titanium surface, pushing the diaphragm's break-up resonances upward so the top end comes out smoother. The numbers: 110 dB sensitivity, 50 W AES, 8 Ω and a working range from 1.6 kHz to 20,000 Hz. The exit measures 25 mm.
Use and enclosure
The recommended crossover is 1.6 kHz, which is the same as the lower limit of the frequency range. In practice that means: in small boxes with an 8" or 10" woofer at moderate levels you can get close to that value, whereas in full-tilt applications you should cross well above it with a steep filter. At 50 W AES the NSD1095N is not a driver for running at the limit all night, but one where the 110 dB sensitivity does the work.
At 42.audio you will find matching 1" horns from 18Sound: the XT120 for wide coverage, the XT1086 Alu, the XR1064 Alu for narrow long-throw dispersion, and the XG10 Alu waveguide for hi-fi oriented designs. The driver's short body makes it easy to combine with a waveguide in a shallow baffle.
What to look out for
- 1" throat, 25 mm exit: fits XT120, XT1086 Alu, XR1064 Alu and XG10 Alu.
- 50 W AES: plan a limiter, do not cross below 1.6 kHz.
- 1.1 kg and 53 mm depth: suited to compact cabinets and monitors.
- 8 Ω, 110 dB: low power demand, relevant for passive crossovers with attenuation.
- Diaphragm made of nitride-coated titanium (NSD series).
Frequently asked questions
Which cabinet suits the NSD1095N?
Compact two-way designs with a small woofer where weight and depth matter: small PA, stage monitors, home cinema with a horn tweeter. With 110 dB it delivers plenty of level as long as the crossover stays above 1.6 kHz.
Which 1" horn fits?
All 18Sound horns with a 1" throat at 42.audio: XT120 (wide), XT1086 Alu, XR1064 Alu (narrow) and the XG10 Alu waveguide. Choose by the coverage angle you need and the baffle width of your box.
How much amplifier power does the driver need?
Little. At 110 dB and 8 Ω a small channel is enough, and in an active system a limiter with a properly set threshold matters more than power. In passive crossovers you will usually need to pad the driver down by a few dB.
