18SOUND PR614: 1.4" horn with 60°x40° for tops that need throw
When a top cabinet has to project further than a standard horn allows, you reach for tighter coverage. The 18SOUND PR614 is a 1.4" horn with 60° horizontal and 40° vertical dispersion, built for compression drivers with a 1.4" throat. The exit at the throat measures 35 mm, which corresponds to the 1.4" interface; the horn weighs 1.94 kg.
Compared with wider horns the PR614 concentrates energy into a smaller solid angle. That brings two things: more on-axis level for the same driver power and fewer reflections from side walls and ceiling. In reverberant rooms and over longer distances that is an audible gain in speech intelligibility. The weight of 1.94 kg shows this is a solid horn whose walls do not resonate along.
Use and enclosure
Typical applications are tops with throw: covering long rooms, clusters of several cabinets in which the 60° sectors line up side by side, and installations where wall reflections must be avoided. For the crossover: the driver should work well above its resonance, and the horn must already control directivity in the transition region, otherwise the coverage jumps at the crossover between woofer and horn.
