Beyma 10CMV2: 10" midrange with 1.5" voice coil, 95 dB and Qts 0.42

The Beyma 10CMV2 is a 10" midrange from the CMV series, designed for the range from 60 Hz to 5,000 Hz. With 250 W AES power handling, 95 dB sensitivity and a 1.5" voice coil at 8 Ω, it is a deliberately simple driver: 3.1 kg weight, but 152 mm mounting depth, which has to be considered in the cabinet.

Its parameter set differs clearly from tightly tuned PA midranges: Fs 52 Hz, Qts 0.42, Qms 8.2, Vas 44 l, Xmax 6 mm, Mms 56 g. The higher total Q and the large equivalent volume make it more of a universal mid-woofer than a pure midrange: it needs volume, but in return delivers real lower midrange and also works in a sealed box. The high Qms shows low mechanical losses in the suspension.

Use and enclosure

The EBP of 90 sits exactly in the region where sealed and vented both work. As a guideline: sealed about 24 l with an in-box resonance around 88 Hz, vented around 55 l, tuned to 48 Hz, with a lower cutoff around 46 Hz. The vented volume is generous for a top, but it shows what the cone can do: in a 2-way full-range cabinet with a 1" compression driver it covers the lower midrange without a subwoofer. The crossover to the tweeter should sit well below 5,000 Hz, because a 10" cone already beams strongly there; a 1" compression driver on a Beyma horn from the horns and waveguides category fits. In full-range use, protect the low end with a high-pass below the tuning frequency; in a midrange chamber, cross with margin above 60 Hz.

  • 8 Ω, Re 5.4 Ω, Le 0.7 mH.
  • 1.5" voice coil: 250 W AES, under sustained load the coil is the thermal limit.
  • Mounting depth 152 mm: deep for a 10" driver, check cabinet depth in advance.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 10CMV2 usable as the woofer in a 2-way top without a subwoofer?

Yes, with the right volume. Around 55 l vented at 48 Hz tuning brings it to a lower cutoff around 46 Hz, which is enough for speech and music without a subwoofer in smaller rooms. Xmax of 6 mm sets the limit on level.

Which amplifier suits the 10CMV2?

Power handling is 250 W AES at 8 Ω. A power amplifier in that class with a limiter is the right size; more power gains little because of the 1.5" coil. With 95 dB sensitivity you reach usable levels with less power as well.

10CMV2 or Beyma 10MCS500 and 10MCB700?

The 10MCS500 sits at Fs 65 Hz, Qts 0.31 and Vas 24 l, the 10MCB700 at Fs 75 Hz, Qts 0.33 and Vas 13.2 l. Both are built for smaller cabinets and higher levels. The 10CMV2 with Vas 44 l and Qts 0.42 is the choice when volume is available and lower midrange is wanted.
