Beyma 10CX300/Fe: 10" ferrite coax with 300 W, 96.5 dB and 50–20,000 Hz for monitors
Beyma lays out the 10CX300/Fe as a complete full-range coaxial driver: a 10" cone with ferrite magnet, a 1.75" voice coil, 300 W AES power handling and 96.5 dB sensitivity, with a stated frequency range of 50 Hz to 20,000 Hz for the whole system. Nominal impedance is 8 Ω with Re 5.2 Ω. That makes it the smallest Beyma coax in the CX series at 42.audio and the one with the widest range of uses, from near-field monitor to small installation.
The Thiele-Small parameters match that task: Fs 48 Hz, Qts 0.38, Vas 63 l, BL 11.65 Tm and a moving mass of 35 g. The Xmax of 6.7 mm is generous for a 10" and, together with the 380 cm² cone area, gives a displacement volume of 256 cm³. That is enough for real low end from a 10" driver as long as the cabinet cooperates. The inductance of 0.4 mH is low, which lets the cone rise cleanly up to the transition into the tweeter.
Use and enclosure
With an EBP of 117 the 10CX300/Fe sits in the range where bass reflex is clearly the better choice. Guideline: about 59 l net, tuned to 48 Hz, with f3 also at 48 Hz. That is a large cabinet for a 10", but it rewards you with low end that handles speech, jazz and acoustic material without a sub. Smaller boxes are possible but push f3 upward; the enclosure calculator at 42.audio shows the effect directly. Sealed you get about 26 l with fc at 89 Hz, which works well as a monitor with subwoofer or as a surround speaker.
Take the crossover frequency to the HF unit from Beyma's specifications for the driver; it depends on the HF voice coil and the horn profile formed by the cone. A high-pass below the tuning frequency is part of the package with 6.7 mm Xmax, so the cone does not bottom out on deep-bass transients. The ferrite magnet makes the driver heavier at 5.1 kg than a neodymium coax of the same size, which is irrelevant for fixed installations and studio monitors.
What to look out for
- Ferrite magnet, 5.1 kg: uncritical for installation and studio, worth noting for touring
- 1.75" voice coil, 300 W AES at 8 Ω: small amplifiers and plate amps are enough
- Xmax 6.7 mm, Vd 256 cm³: real low end from a 10" in about 59 l bass reflex
- Qts 0.38 and Vas 63 l: needs volume, rewards with f3 around 48 Hz
- Le 0.4 mH: low inductance, straightforward crossover design in the transition
Frequently asked questions
Is the 10CX300/Fe suitable for a studio monitor?
Yes, that is an obvious use. In about 59 l bass reflex tuned to 48 Hz it reaches an f3 around 48 Hz as a guideline, radiated coaxially from one axis with 96.5 dB sensitivity.
What is the difference from the 18Sound 10CX650?
The 18Sound 10CX650 has Fs 54 Hz, Qts 0.35 and Vas 36.4 l and therefore gets by with a smaller cabinet. The Beyma 10CX300/Fe with Vas 63 l and Fs 48 Hz goes deeper in larger boxes. Both are in the driver database at 42.audio.
Which amplifier fits?
A channel around 300 W AES into 8 Ω uses the full rating. With 96.5 dB sensitivity the driver also works on smaller plate amps; a high-pass below the tuning matters more than high power.
