Beyma 15LEX1000Nd: light 15" neodymium bass with 1,000 W AES for vented and sealed
At 7.6 kg the Beyma 15LEX1000Nd is one of the lighter 15" bass drivers with 1,000 W AES power handling. The neodymium motor with a 3.5" voice coil, 97 dB sensitivity and 8 Ω impedance is tailored to portable subwoofers and bass cabinets where every kilo counts. The working range from 40 to 1,500 Hz also lets it serve as the woofer in a 2-way system with a low crossover.
The parameters differ somewhat from long-throw sub drivers: Qts 0.37, Fs 41 Hz and Vas 113 l give an EBP of 98 – which puts the driver right at the border where both vented and sealed boxes work. The moving mass of 95 g is low for a 15", and BL 17.2 Tm together with Le 1 mH point to a clean, not over-damped character up into the lower midrange. Xmax 7 mm and 616 cm³ of displacement are enough for stage-sized bass; for infra-bass ambitions you should look at longer-throw drivers.
Use and enclosure
The vented guide value is 98 l tuned to 42 Hz with an f3 of 43 Hz. That is a generous volume rewarded with a very flat alignment – for a vented sub that reaches into the 40s without DSP tricks. If you want to build smaller, go sealed: 43 l at fc 78 Hz gives a box that works well with equalisation in a home cinema or as the bass section of a 3-way speaker. Run both options through the enclosure calculator on 42.audio.
Thanks to the upper limit of 1,500 Hz the 15LEX1000Nd also works as the woofer in a 2-way system if you hand over to a compression driver on a horn well below that limit. A high-pass below the vent tuning protects the 7 mm Xmax at high levels.
What to look out for
- 7.6 kg – neodymium makes it the driver for portable subs and flown bass cabinets.
- Mounting depth 174 mm: fits common 15" cabinets without special measures.
- 8 Ω, Re 5.2 Ω: amplifier around 1,000 W into 8 Ω, plan a high-pass below fb.
- Xmax 7 mm, Vd 616 cm³: stage bass yes, infra-bass with caution.
- EBP 98: vented and sealed are equally possible.
Frequently asked questions
Vented or sealed – which suits the 15LEX1000Nd better?
With EBP 98 both work. Vented around 98 l brings real extension down to about 43 Hz; sealed at 43 l saves half the volume and needs equalisation below 78 Hz in return. For PA, vented is the rule; for home cinema, sealed with DSP is a good choice.
What is the difference to the Beyma 15LEX1600Nd?
The 15LEX1600Nd offers more power handling at 1,600 W AES and a 4" voice coil, with the same Fs of 41 Hz and a similar Qts of 0.36. Its Vas is smaller at 91 l, so it gets by with less box. The 15LEX1000Nd is lighter and less expensive when 1,000 W is enough.
Which amplifier should I use?
A channel with around 1,000 W into 8 Ω matches the power rating. Since Xmax is 7 mm, a high-pass below the tuning matters more than extra power; with 97 dB sensitivity a lot of SPL arrives even at moderate power.

Enclosure suggestion
The EBP of 98 is in the intermediate range — either works; sealed plays tighter, bass reflex deeper and louder. EBP = fs / Qes = 41 / 0.42
Sealed (Qtc 0.707)
- Enclosure volume Vb
- 42.6 l
- System resonance Fc
- 78 Hz
- Cut-off frequency F3
- 78 Hz
Bass reflex (QB3 after Small)
- Enclosure volume Vb
- 85.0 l
- Tuning frequency Fb
- 45 Hz
- Cut-off frequency F3

Vb is the required net internal volume, Fb the tuning frequency of the reflex port and F3 the frequency at which the level has dropped by 3 dB. Calculated approximation after Small. A starting point for simulation, not a finished build plan.
